Renewable Energy Due Diligence
Independent review of renewable energy projects from development through construction and operation, grounded in owner-side delivery experience.
Who this is for
Developers, investors, lenders and owners who need an independent technical view of a solar, wind, battery or hybrid project before they commit, finance, acquire or energise. The work is aimed at utility-scale and material industrial projects, not residential or small commercial solar sales.
Project coverage
Reviews can cover a complete project or a defined technical workstream. The electrical, control and delivery interfaces are usually where value is lost, even when the generating technology itself is well understood.
- Solar PV and balance of plant
- Battery energy storage systems
- Wind generation
- Substations and transmission connections
- SCADA, controls and communications
- Commissioning and operational readiness
What we test
Is the design mature enough for the decision being made? Are the energy, availability and degradation assumptions supportable, and is the uncertainty visible? Are technical interfaces allocated in the contracts, or only in the slides? Is the programme realistic given studies, long-lead plant and the connection pathway? What could materially affect cost, schedule, safety or performance?
For grid-connected plant, that includes the maturity of connection studies, Generator Performance Standards where they apply, and whether the evidence pack is consistent with typical AEMO and Network Service Provider expectations. For BESS, it includes integrator and technology risk, electrical balance of plant, protection and controls, and the safety interfaces that sit outside a single vendor’s package.
How the work runs
Scope is set around the transaction or gate, not around producing a long comment list. A data-room and interview plan follows. Early red flags are raised while there is still time to obtain information or change the deal structure. The written output then concentrates on material issues, gaps and residual risk.
What you receive
A decision-focused paper that tests the project case rather than restating it. Energy-yield and resource studies are reviewed for method, assumptions and uncertainty; they are not replaced. The report is written so an investment committee, lender or owner can see what is known, what is not, and what should happen next.
Experience this draws on
The review draws on engineering leadership across utility-scale wind, solar, BESS and grid-connected infrastructure, high-voltage commissioning, and development-stage work on emerging energy projects. The intent is to bring a delivery view to documents that are often written to support a case rather than to survive contact with site, contract and the network.
Do you review battery energy storage systems?
Yes. Typical BESS scope includes technology and integrator risk, electrical balance of plant, controls and protection, safety interfaces, and whether performance and degradation assumptions are supportable.
Is this the same as an energy-yield study?
No. Resource and energy-yield studies are reviewed for method, assumptions and uncertainty. They are not replaced. The question is whether the case those studies support is robust enough for the decision.
Can the review be limited to grid connection?
Yes. Scope can be the whole project or a defined workstream such as connection, high-voltage infrastructure, SCADA and controls, or commissioning readiness.
Do you take residential or installer-sales work?
No. The practice is aimed at utility-scale and material industrial energy projects.
